Unconventional Car Tracking Hacks

We all know how car tracking works …

You go to a car tracking services company, you get the best package as per your requirements and budget, and you get a small device installed in your car.

Their backend services do a lot of things e.g. geofencing, car tracking and engine kill etc. whenever required.

However, have you ever thought that if you do not have a budget or a trust issue with car tracking services, how you can still track your car or adopt unconventional ways of protecting your car?

Well, this is all what this post is about. You will get to read about unconventional car tracking and protection hacks that many of you might not have heard of.

Car tracking Hacks

Using Cell Phone

blank

We all know that all basic car tracking devices are based on GSM technology – this is exactly the technology behind the sim cards that we use in our iPhone or Samsung mobile phones.

All you have to do is hide a mobile phone somewhere in your car (a place that no one can normally think of), and if, God forbids, someone manages to run away with your car, all you’d have to do is inform the police and track the GSM.

Now, there is no doubt that police can do this better, but don’t ever think that you cannot track your own GSM cell phone (actually, your car bearing it).

Here is how you can do this personally:

  • Get a small android phone with great battery.
  • Sign in with your Google Account that you actually use on your personal cell phone.
  • The small android phone should always be connected to the internet via data.
  • Turn on the location.
  • Turn on the Find My Device (Google) service.
  • Make sure it is connected to all Google apps on the mobile e.g. Google Play.

And that’s it. As soon as someone jacks your car, you can use Find My Device on your laptop, tablet or real personal cell phone with the same Google account active as on that small cellphone for tracking, and you would be able to track the mobile – in other words, your car.

For such a setup battery life is critical – just like in the case of all smartphones, your phone will give you a maximum of 24 hours to track it and save your car.

A better set-up can be to attach a fully charged power bank with this phone and in that case, depending on the power of that power bank, your phone will get roughly 3 days.

A Big High-Quality Steel Lock

blank

This is a pretty famous hack, but it cannot work for all cars. As far as I know, most of the Suzuki cars under 1000 CC, can be secured with this hack.

These cars, have a little hole in the intermedia shaft connected to their steering wheel. All you have to do is to go down there, have the lock’s shackle go through that hole and then press it.

It’s not that a thief cannot break a lock, but for a high-quality steel lock, he’d need some time and space to work something out with his hammer and nails, etc. The little space down there would not easily allow that.

Install a Baby Monitor

blank

In the busy urban life of developed countries, parents do not have time to take care of babies so just in order to keep an eye on babysitter or for other times, they install a baby monitor. It can make videos and record voices.

A baby monitor, hidden somewhere in the car can make a video (with audio) of the criminals and you can later recover your car with the help of police.

Keep the Wheels Turned Towards the Curb

blank

If you keep your wheels turned towards the curb while parking, the thieves that tow the cars with a tow truck will have difficulty because the wheels wouldn’t be straight.

It will take time for them to break into the car (without making noise) and get the wheels straight.

Do likewise ladies and gents, and you would decrease the chances of some getting away with your car – these hacks are not as good a real car tracking, but they can defeat the least trained thieves.
